What can Hair Analysis Reveal?
Trace mineral analysis is a test which measures the mineral content of your hair. Mineral content of your hair reflects the mineral content of your body's tissues. If a mineral deficiency or excess exists in the hair, it usually indicates that the same is happening within your body.
What HTMA Can Reveal in Children with ASD:
Nutritional Deficiencies
• Low levels of key minerals like magnesium, zinc, calcium, selenium, and lithium are common in ASD.
• These minerals support the brain, nervous system, detox, sleep, behaviour, and digestion.
Toxic Metal Accumulation
• HTMA often shows elevated levels of aluminium, arsenic, mercury, cadmium, or lead — which may impact speech, behaviour, attention, and immune function.
• Children with ASD often have impaired detoxification, so these metals accumulate.
Detox & Elimination Patterns
• Certain mineral ratios show how well the body is detoxing or retaining toxins.
• Poor eliminators may appear “normal” on a test — but deeper ratios show they’re stuck or not releasing toxins.
Nervous System Stress
• The test can reveal adrenal function and how stressed the nervous system is (e.g., from inflammation, trauma, or overactivity).
• High sodium/potassium ratios may show hyper-reactivity, aggression, or anxiety.
• Low levels may indicate burnout, sensory shutdown, or exhaustion.
Hidden Gut and Yeast Clues
• Imbalances like low zinc or high copper often suggest yeast overgrowth or gut dysbiosis.
• This helps guide protocols for candida, parasites, or inflammation.
Oxidative Stress & Inflammation
Children with ASD often experience high levels of oxidative stress — an internal imbalance where harmful molecules called free radicals build up and damage cells.
HTMA can show this through:
• Elevated toxic metals (e.g., arsenic, mercury)
• Low protective minerals (e.g., selenium, zinc, manganese, magnesium)
• Burnout ratios — showing chronic inflammation or poor antioxidant defense
What this means:
• Oxidative stress drives inflammation in the brain, gut, and immune system — contributing to behaviours, poor focus, regression, and sensory issues.
• Supporting antioxidant minerals (like zinc, selenium, and magnesium) can calm inflammation, reduce anxiety, and improve regulation.
For Adults:
Depression, Thyroid Disturbance
Hypoglycaemia, Digestive Disorders
Hyperactivity, Diabetes
Headaches, Musculoskeletal Disorders
Hypertension, Cardiovascular Disease
Arthritis, Emotional Problems
Hair loss, Allergies
Anaemia, Lethargy and Fatigue
Low sex Drive, Menstrual Problems
Hair tests successfully reveal the presence of heavy metals. There is no safe limit for these metals and may themselves be causing numerous health conditions.
This test is easy to perform. A small hair sample is provided (full instructions given) and sent to a specific laboratory. You will not notice any hair loss as the sample is taken from a few different places at the back of the head from your underneath hair.
Results will be emailed to you with guideline of how to proceed with regards to supplementation and dietary suggestions. Your report shows significant mineral levels and ratios and provides important information related to your metabolic rate, energy levels, sugar and carbohydrate tolerance, immune system, glandular activity, autonomic balance, metabolic trends and basic dietary guidelines.
Retest (£112) - Current Patients Only

It is highly advisable to track progress and have a retest in 4-6 months after the first one.
Why HTMA Retesting Matters
HTMA (Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis) is a powerful tool to support children with ASD, offering insight into mineral imbalances, detox pathways, and nervous system function. But a single test isn’t enough—regular retesting is key to real, sustained progress.
1. The body shifts as it heals
As your child’s system strengthens, mineral levels and patterns will shift. Retesting helps us understand what’s changing—what’s improving, what still needs support, and how to adapt the plan to meet your child’s current needs.
2. Responses to supplements can vary
Children with ASD often have sensitive systems. What works at one stage may need adjusting later. Retesting helps ensure your child is tolerating and benefiting from supplements, and highlights when it’s time to pause, reduce, or change direction.
3. Avoiding new imbalances
Correcting one mineral can impact others. Without retesting, it’s easy to accidentally overdo or create new depletions. Regular follow-ups help us keep things balanced and avoid triggering setbacks.
4. Detox is a layered process
In many children, toxic metals only show on HTMA once the body is strong enough to begin eliminating them. Retesting can reveal deeper detox layers that weren’t visible earlier, helping us support the body through each phase safely.
5. Guiding your child’s next steps
Your child’s needs change over time. Each HTMA follow-up gives a clear picture of where their system is at now—allowing us to tailor support for language development, behaviour regulation, gut healing, or nervous system calm, based on real data.
